One Thing Reset

A shift that I am seeing

I am seeing some “One Thing” shifts happening on the earth and over the next while I would like to write and talk about some of these things, as well as create space for hungry ones to come together in-keeping with this theme, but for now I want to bring your attention to one shift in particular.

I see a tremendous wave of prayer and worship. This wave means grace to enter the place of being with God through prayer, worship, marinading in the Word, and fasting (and anything else that joins our hearts to His). I believe that as we engage this grace of God to be with Him, we begin to occupy a place in the Spirit. Like the 120 gathered in the upper room, as we set aside time to be with Him we too are responding to Jesus’ prayer for oneness and, in that oneness we begin to come into one mind and one heart- His mind, His heart. Us in God, God in us.

“…that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they may also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me, The Glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one. I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”  John 17:21-23

Oneness

When Acts 2:1 refers to the followers of Jesus being together in “one place”, I don’t believe it is talking about just an earthly locality but the occupying of a heavenly realm, or another way of looking at it is our abiding in the heart of God. Us in God, God in us. This great call to draw near to God is a call to oneness, to face-to-face, to engage His heart and to live from the abundance of that eternal Place.

One of the things that this wave is doing is bringing a much needed re-centring again in our generation. Our hearts are made to centre on God alone. Any other centre is a false-centre. Any person or thing that occupies first place in our lives is a false-centre or an idol.

Revelation 2 is sobering, “But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first (your first love)”. Here God is speaking to us who have patiently endured, rejected evil and stood for Truth, who patiently continue to stand as a believer and have not even compromised.  So this letter is written to those who are seemingly in tip-top shape really. But I believe He is saying; well done for all of it -it does not go unseen or unrecognised, I see, I recognise your fight for truth my child but I have this against you, you have abandoned (neglected or removed from first) your first love. Remember what it was like at first, remember how high you soared on the thermals of My love, and see how far you have fallen from there. Remember and repent.

It is possible to look the part on the outside (tip-top shape externally) and be missing the Presence on the inside. The choice is always ours; to repent and draw near, or not to, but then we must live with the consequences, “If not I will come and remove your lampstand from its place”. Yes, consequences still exists even in the time of grace. Every choice has consequences but He who is so good and so empowering puts before us Life and Death and urges us to choose Life (Deuteronomy 30:15).

The idol of our time

One of the scariest false centre’s or idols that has gripped our generation is the centre or idol of self. A self-obsession has gripped our hearts as a generation, which I believe has come in as result of the lack of fathering and a crippling lack of a sense of self-worth. It is not that God does not want us to love ourselves- in fact it is so important to Him that it is part of the second commandment!

But if the enemy distorts this beautiful second commandment, which we know finds its basis in the first commandment, then we end up with what has been dubbed the “selfie generation”, with a law legalising full-term abortion, and in terms of Christianity – with selfishness that leaves us looking nothing like Christ.

The very core of Christianity is selflessness, demonstrated by the Father who gave His best for us and the Son who held nothing back from us. Selflessness is a word we need to revisit as believers.

• How selfless am I really?
• How much do I give of myself?
• Is my life surrendered/ laid down for God?

“Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life (for my sake) will keep it.” Luke 17:33

A divine One Thing reset

This prayer wave is a gift from God to RESET our very core and re-centre us. As this happens our hearts will come alive. This is the place of burning. This is the fire that will go to the ends of the earth. The divine One Thing reset is bringing a return to a pure and beautiful worship of the beautiful One.

We have been caught up in so much that is not worthy, busy with so much, and He is calling us to slow down and to return. Mary chose the one thing, the better thing, the necessary thing. He is calling us to this One Thing.

He who has an ear, let him hear.
