I saw a restlessness in people as they begin the year. I saw people wanting to hear God, wanting to “connect” with Him but unable to do so because of an internal restlessness; it looks like an inability to focus on conversations with God, to have time in His Presence, and to draw anything significant from the Word.
Here’s a reminder of 2 simple keys that will perhaps help you if you find yourself there:
- With your heart and your mouth remind yourself that you value God’s Presence, you value His Word and you value your connection with Him. I believe that what we value in the spirit realm we often attract.
- Play a real worship song and allow your heart to engage with it, a song that focuses on God and not you or your needs. This morning I listened to Jeremy Riddle’s song, Revelation 1. Try it. As you listen turn your affections to God.
Often, as we truly worship and see God High and Lifted up, we are reset in His Presence. We get re-centred and aligned to Him and His voice. Suddenly all the “stuff” that clutters and demands our attention diminishes in significance, and the distractions lose their pull. Out attention and affections realign. In this place our heart quietens and the restlessness subsides and we gain peace and perspective. It is way easier to hear God here in this place, than standing in the sea of restlessness.
The Truth is, because of the cross we are connected. Disconnection is a lie. The enemy tries to keep us too busy or too restless to realise we have been connected all this time, and we are connected. In peace we come back to connection.
Enjoy.
